2020 Image Change

On June 25, 2020, the band officially dropped the word “Dixie” from their name, officially rebranding themselves The Chicks. Following national criticism of Confederate symbols, the band decided that it was time to make the long-awaited change. The group claimed that the use of the word was a youthful indiscretion made without full understanding of the violent history of the Confederacy.

Along with the name change, The Chicks released the protest song, “March March,” inspired by the 2018 March for Our Lives protest against gun violence. The song addresses issues of gun control as well as reproductive rights, global warming, and other social issues.
